[00:00:07] Speaker A: In the beginning, the earth was a dark, formless void.
But then God spoke and said, let there be wrestling.
And with that, there was Monday, and wrestling happened on Mondays. And God looked upon her works and said, holy shit, that's a lot of racism in video packages.
On the second day, God got depressed. And lo, did she post about it on the DB DVR forums.
And with that, there was Tuesday.
On the third day, God said, let there be Wednesday. And lo did the people reply unto her. We know what that means.
The people rejoice, and under the blue sky reveled in their faked fights.
And again, the Lord spoke.
I shall send among thee a puppy girl, a functioning alcoholic, and a choking mongoose. And from them, they shall tell you the good news about the Wednesday night fake fights.
And the people cried out, no one actually asked for this.
But God didn't listen because she's kind of a bitch like that.
Amen.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: Hey. Hey, and welcome back to Wednesday Night Fake Fights, the weekly show where we cover all things aew.
As always, we got our three hosts here. I'm Jeff the Toki Mongoose.
[00:01:39] Speaker C: You got that radio voice out of nowhere. Oh, I'd like it.
[00:01:45] Speaker B: I did. Broadcasting. I don't think you all knew that I'm a broadcasting major before I dropped out. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I got secret talents learning more about.
[00:01:55] Speaker C: You every week as we do this show.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: Oh, it's. It's gonna be half the journey.
[00:02:02] Speaker C: I'm Piper Willow. She it here. Back again for our second episode.
[00:02:11] Speaker A: And I am Erica Warren. She they. And I'm very tired. But I'm here.
[00:02:17] Speaker C: I have a feeling.
I have a feeling. That makes three of us after.
[00:02:24] Speaker B: We'Re the sleepiest podcast in wrestling.
[00:02:27] Speaker C: There's our tagline.
[00:02:31] Speaker A: Tony Khan's EPS soldier.
[00:02:36] Speaker B: They can't see, but we're all wearing the big floppy hats and the robe.
[00:02:40] Speaker A: Yeah, Tony pays us in sleep number mattresses.
[00:02:43] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:02:43] Speaker B: Yes. Knows. Knows my number.
[00:02:45] Speaker C: I've got just a closet full of eye masks of various softnesses and firmnesses to help me get to sleep. But no sleeping this week.
Episode 300 of AEW Dynamite.
I did not realize they were that deep down the rabbit hole till I kind of thought about it and realized, oh, yeah, if you do the math, it's been that long since they kicked this thing off.
[00:03:14] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, it's. It's perhaps that old person thing, but, like, 2019 does not feel that long ago to me. Still. But you got it. I mean, six years. Math does add up. That's about 300 episodes.
[00:03:27] Speaker C: Yep.
But they pulled out all the stops, I think, for this, for this show.
[00:03:33] Speaker B: Good action, good. A good balance of in ring and story work. It was really hit on all cylinders.
[00:03:38] Speaker A: Yeah, they kind of did everything for me.
[00:03:41] Speaker B: Yes, exactly.
[00:03:42] Speaker C: Which started off with the challenger for the AEW World Championship in a couple weeks time. Hangman comes out, talks about riding through death itself, which I thought was a cute little line.
[00:03:57] Speaker B: Yeah, a lot of Death comments.
[00:03:59] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[00:04:01] Speaker B: Building.
[00:04:02] Speaker C: Yeah, lots of death. Lots of you'll have to kill me again as the focus of his promo. Which of course brings out his opponent and world champion Jon Moxley.
[00:04:14] Speaker B: Who? Jan Moxley.
And he has Marino with him, too.
[00:04:25] Speaker C: Yes, yes, yes. But he came out and said much the same as he said last week about how Hangman is not ready for it. He says he wants it, but he doesn't want everything that comes with being the champion.
And again, they kind of have their back and forth.
I hated those two staring off in the ring with Superman on the building. I have that staring between them.
[00:04:52] Speaker B: My second note is not very subtle about the Superman tie.
[00:04:56] Speaker C: Oh, God, no.
[00:04:58] Speaker A: I think my favorite line of this was, give me everything or you give me death.
Yeah.
[00:05:05] Speaker C: He's calling like, bring the bucks out. Bring the Death Riders out.
You will do this or you will give me a Texas Death match at all in Texas. And Mox says no.
[00:05:19] Speaker B: Shuts him down.
[00:05:20] Speaker A: Nope.
[00:05:21] Speaker B: And I don't know if this has happened yet, but there's an amazing moment where Mox is on the mic and the crowd starts chanting bald at him.
He just gives this little, like, sigh. Like, what the side.
[00:05:34] Speaker A: He just. He looks like really, really stink face. Yeah, they kind of stopped after that.
[00:05:43] Speaker B: He might have broke the code.
[00:05:45] Speaker C: They start having their little scuffle. Hangman wrestle something out of his jacket pocket. It's about to fork Mox.
Huda comes in, Yuta gets forked. Hangman gets slapped. Claudio takes him to. It was a whole.
[00:06:00] Speaker B: Maria slapped the hell out of him, too.
[00:06:03] Speaker C: Yeah, I think I counted.
I think I counted six times.
[00:06:06] Speaker B: Yeah, I started out writing. Marina slaps him. Then I wrote it again. I was just like, okay, again and again.
[00:06:12] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had three crossed out to four to five.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: Exactly.
[00:06:15] Speaker B: No, I did the same thing.
[00:06:18] Speaker C: They.
They run off as they are want to do.
Hangman calls him out again, asking if that's the best they got. They're about to come back, get interrupted by the ops who were Hangman's heavies in this segment. He's about to get popped with the briefcase by Marina, who snuck up behind him. He stops that. Everybody's kind of standing there. And Hangman directly at Mox says just to show how serious I am about doing anything that it takes just buckshot. Larry. It's Marina Shafir right in the middle of the ring.
[00:06:56] Speaker B: Huge reaction to. Crowd went nuts.
[00:06:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:06:59] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:07:00] Speaker B: Anytime like a babyface just does their finisher to Marina Shafir. Gets a crazy reaction.
I remember Jay White did it.
[00:07:09] Speaker A: They've done a really good job of building her up. Is like. Like she's a credible threat.
[00:07:15] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. 100.
[00:07:15] Speaker A: It's not. It's not like, oh, my God, he hit a. He hit a dame.
[00:07:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:21] Speaker A: It's like, no, he hit Marine Holy.
[00:07:28] Speaker B: Fan. Not a dame.
[00:07:30] Speaker C: And it's not like she's just credible threat asterisk to women.
[00:07:33] Speaker B: It's just.
[00:07:33] Speaker C: She's credible threat.
[00:07:35] Speaker B: No, exactly.
She's a believable heavy.
[00:07:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:39] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:07:39] Speaker B: Like. Yep. She has a good aura. I mean, like really carries herself as a dangerous person.
I do wish she did actually still do some women's wrestling in there sometimes.
Two matches in the last year.
[00:07:53] Speaker C: I don't even know if I've seen any from her.
[00:07:55] Speaker B: If I'm honest. I thought she did one against like Willow or something or is that just something? No, they're just been teasing that.
[00:08:01] Speaker A: I guess maybe it's been teased. I know that they were both. They've been in mixed tag matches and.
[00:08:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I thought there was.
She had like.
Yeah, she. I know. I really feel like she had like one or two matches that were like mixed tags or something like that. But even that. Nothing. I really remember.
[00:08:20] Speaker A: She was in. She was in Anarchy in the arena as well.
[00:08:23] Speaker B: Yeah, that's right. Yep.
Because she was the defy champ for a while. So I know I saw her on like some shows doing that. So I might be crossing wires.
[00:08:33] Speaker C: And Mox accepts.
Accepts the challenge.
[00:08:38] Speaker B: Yep. Takes the shirt off first. Gotta get mad. Yeah.
[00:08:41] Speaker C: Yes. That's how you know he's serious.
[00:08:48] Speaker B: That's when it's binding.
Those are captain's assurance are happening. That's wrestle true.
[00:08:56] Speaker C: It's true.
That's what they proved in wrestlers court back in. It was what, 92, 93, I think.
[00:09:04] Speaker A: Damn.
[00:09:05] Speaker B: Yep. Then Dino Bravo, which is. Whipped his shirt off and declared it no. He didn't get the shirt off first. So nobody could fight it.
Yeah. I thought that was a good site. I mean that. I think it worked. We all knew this was the step. Like.
[00:09:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:22] Speaker B: They've been building telegraphing this it's in. The show's in Texas Hangman is the Texas death match guy. All his matches are. His best matches are all text of death matches.
[00:09:32] Speaker A: They've been talking about murder and death for like three weeks now.
[00:09:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:37] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:09:37] Speaker B: The rival faction is literally called the Death Riders.
[00:09:40] Speaker C: It was inevitable.
[00:09:42] Speaker B: Yeah, they. No, it's. And it's the move. It is the move.
[00:09:46] Speaker A: And they just.
The crowd was like nuclear for this match or this whole segment. Like, they were behind it. Everything.
[00:09:55] Speaker C: Crowd was into everything.
[00:09:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:58] Speaker C: Pretty much the entire show.
[00:10:00] Speaker B: Yeah. Very good.
[00:10:02] Speaker C: One thing I was not into on this show, as I mentioned before, was all the Superman crap.
[00:10:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
Like, they. They've done these theme tie in shows before. It's wrestling. I mean, that happened. But this is your 300th episode.
Episode 300/heroes. And Vil like.
[00:10:24] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:10:24] Speaker B: And all you see is freaking Superman's face over the ring apron. The whole show.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: I get. They had to get it in.
[00:10:32] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:10:34] Speaker B: Stay on the network.
[00:10:36] Speaker A: Corporate synergy's fine. I get it. But like. Yeah, it.
[00:10:40] Speaker B: But this, like this little Toni Storm segment with the lady playing Lois Lane that.
What did that do?
Who's really gonna go see this movie.
[00:10:48] Speaker C: Now off that If I see it less.
[00:10:51] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly as you say.
[00:10:54] Speaker A: I have to wait for my friend to see it because he's a big Superman fan and if he likes it, then I'll know it's actually good.
[00:10:58] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm kind of. I'm not a big superhero person in general, so I guess I barely watched any Marvel. I don't think I've ever watched any dc, so it's not for me, I guess. But I was happy to see Nicholas Wolf pop up later. I love him.
[00:11:10] Speaker C: I have a feeling this is not going to be like wholly remembered as the 300th episode. You're just gonna remember it as the Superman episode, which is, I think, a bad.
A bad.
[00:11:21] Speaker A: I. I think it'll be remembered for something other than that. But.
[00:11:25] Speaker B: Yeah, but I mean that. That image of Kenny in the cape is already making its ways around as a meme.
[00:11:31] Speaker A: That's a little. That's a little bit goofy. That's a little bit goofy. Yeah.
[00:11:34] Speaker B: Just Kenny, you know, we roll with it. Yeah. And especially leading into this match.
[00:11:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:40] Speaker C: Toni storms in the promo and then comes right out.
[00:11:44] Speaker B: Yeah. And she's Goofy Tony in the promo, like doing funnies. And then she's dour Tony for the actual match.
[00:11:52] Speaker C: Incredibly sour.
[00:11:53] Speaker A: Yeah. She's like, oh, my God, I'm watching a murder.
[00:11:58] Speaker C: Comes out, joins the.
I was under the impression.
No, she didn't. I was under the impression she was going to join and then she sits down.
[00:12:09] Speaker B: I was so excited because I love Tony on commentary. She. She's like the funniest person on commentary. And then they just did the state dinner thing.
[00:12:15] Speaker A: Yeah, I, I think they did. I mean, like, it's what you said. Like they did kind of like the, the, the, the comedy bit before. And then they come in and as serious Tony. And I get why they want to do serious Tony. Not.
[00:12:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:30] Speaker A: At commentary.
[00:12:31] Speaker C: Talking about like that whiplash was.
[00:12:34] Speaker B: Yeah, Tonal whiplash. Exactly.
Yeah. And I don't know about the whole state dinner thing. Like, it's just kind of weird.
[00:12:44] Speaker A: I, I don't know where they're going with it, but they've been doing it.
[00:12:49] Speaker C: I, I guess it's just. She's fancy Hollywood elite. That's really all I was.
[00:12:53] Speaker B: Mercedes. Mercedes has been eating them. And I think that was like she's treating her to a steak dinner now.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: I guess it's like, oh, they did.
[00:13:02] Speaker B: Yeah, she did it. Like, it, it's not, it's not communicated well because there's also.
This was also Mercedes thousandth match and that's what the cake said.
[00:13:12] Speaker C: Okay.
Yeah, but they didn't really notice that.
[00:13:15] Speaker A: Yeah, See, like, I thought that was for the silly.
[00:13:18] Speaker C: The way I thought it was like.
[00:13:20] Speaker B: The 300th episode, but it was for her thousandth match, which wasn't at all.
[00:13:25] Speaker A: And I thought Tony was sitting there like she was copying Mercedes, but like Mercedes ordered her the food and said, sit here and watch.
[00:13:34] Speaker B: Yeah, I think it was on collision. Maybe she had like a promo saying, like, I'm gonna treat you to a steak dinner while I beat the hell out of Mina or something. You know, I'm paraphrasing.
[00:13:44] Speaker C: Got it.
[00:13:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:47] Speaker A: But she did.
[00:13:48] Speaker C: Yeah, she did beat the out of. They both beat the out of each other. It was a. Yeah, yeah. Pretty great back and forth match I really liked.
[00:13:56] Speaker B: I mean, you know, we're nitpicking a little at this kind of goofy beginning, but the match itself was amazing.
And Taz kept getting distracted by the stakes, which was hilarious.
I don't know if that's my. That might not be my Taz of the week, but it's in contention.
[00:14:12] Speaker C: I don't think it's mine either, but he did have trouble saying the word catatonic and reference to Coney Storm. I believe he said anatotic, which I got a kick out of.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, that's the whole match. I Have here. Like Mina did this like spinning flash over the ref because she'd been working Mercedes leg and the ref was down checking the leg. I was like, that is really clever. And she just nailed the execution of it.
Yeah. They did live work throughout this. Very good storytelling that it was really.
[00:14:53] Speaker C: Figure four ring post.
[00:14:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:55] Speaker C: Spot was nasty.
[00:14:59] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly.
And like you sometimes forget, or at least I do like how good in the ring Mina is because she's such a like charismatic, like funny character and stuff like that. But then like when she really is like in a good singles match like this, she just nails it. She's still entertaining and charismatic, but she just, you know, it's like a damn train.
[00:15:23] Speaker A: Yeah. Like, you forget that she comes from stardom and yeah, stardom is legit. Is is Joshi and Joshi is.
We are going to you up.
We're pretty ladies. We'll you up.
[00:15:38] Speaker B: Yeah. There's one point where she like kicks Mercedes in the back of the neck or like, you know, from behind.
[00:15:44] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:15:45] Speaker B: Oh, landed that solid.
[00:15:47] Speaker C: I was pretty sure I knew how the match was gonna play out, but I wasn't 100% convinced watching it. I thought there was. There was a pretty credible chance that, you know, maybe Mina takes it off her. But as you said, it's the thousandth match and it really shouldn't be any surprise that Mercedes Monet takes it. Did so with an inside cradle of all things.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: Yeah, but which protected me now a bit.
You know, just kind of snagged a roll up.
[00:16:17] Speaker A: Protected Mina. But it came after Mina basically hit her with like four big things through the kitchen sink at her and couldn't keep her down. And I think that was what the point of the match really was getting across is.
[00:16:33] Speaker B: Which like does the storytelling beat. I mean, that's Mina is essentially Tony second. You do the Dragon before the big match. Obviously Mercedes was going to win it. I thought the way they executed it, the way it came together was very well done.
[00:16:46] Speaker A: Yeah. I think we're gonna have to see if like a Mercedes was selling her leg a whole lot. So we got to see if that comes into play at all.
But like really this story comes out as like it's the question. Like Tony actually is the underdog in this.
[00:17:03] Speaker B: Yeah. I will say, like I at the entrance, Mercedes with all those belts looks amazing.
[00:17:10] Speaker A: Awesome.
[00:17:12] Speaker C: They compared it to old world Dragon on her entrance with that. That famous period of time slash picture that we all know holding like 19 belts.
[00:17:22] Speaker B: Super J crown or something, I think.
[00:17:24] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:17:26] Speaker A: Like they will not Stop making that comparison.
[00:17:29] Speaker C: I mean, how can they not?
[00:17:30] Speaker B: It's.
[00:17:30] Speaker A: No.
[00:17:33] Speaker B: I'm liking Mercedes having Tony's visage on the bottom of her shoes.
It reminds me of ravishing Rick Rude when he would, like, you know, airbrush his opponents faces on his ass and crotch and stuff.
[00:17:50] Speaker C: Under his tights.
[00:17:51] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that was brilliant. That's. He getting stuff right there. Yeah, But I think this is all just like that. The belts, everything. It's such a, like, indication of how Mercedes is a student of the game. Like, she knows how to really, like, pull together the heat to make people more invested in the match. Which is a very good skill to have because people hate her. Like, she gets back, right?
[00:18:15] Speaker A: Like, she's. She's got her character perfect and she's killing it. Like, this was such a good match. This was better than the Tokyo Dome match.
[00:18:23] Speaker B: I thought. Oh, I. Yeah. And she threw a champagne in Luther's face. Don't be mean to Luther. He's just a big old goon.
[00:18:29] Speaker A: Yeah, he's. He's. He doesn't count.
[00:18:34] Speaker C: Hey, he's a person too.
[00:18:36] Speaker A: That's debatable.
[00:18:39] Speaker B: Yeah, he was like a death match monster before this kind of thing. I think he was supposed, like, his gimmick was he was Hannibal Lecter or something because all the old Japanese had, like, movie themes. There was like a leather face and he was like doctor or something.
[00:18:56] Speaker A: It was Dr. Luther.
[00:18:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
Death match legend.
[00:19:02] Speaker A: I would be lying if I said I watched a ton of Luthor matches before he was in.
[00:19:05] Speaker B: No. God, no.
[00:19:07] Speaker A: I think only Jericho was his fan.
[00:19:09] Speaker B: Yeah, it was the Jericho thing. That's the only reason. I know.
I know I'm not an MW guy.
[00:19:15] Speaker C: He cleaned up his act and he's. He's doing great now. Yep.
After that match, we get little young bucks promo celebrating 300 episodes of dynamite. They went on a little shopping spree and got themselves a custom limo with Tony's money. And by buying a custom limo, I mean, they went to Kinko's and printed out some stickers and slapped it on.
[00:19:48] Speaker B: Our images.
[00:19:50] Speaker A: I was just like, wow. Really?
[00:19:53] Speaker B: I came up with this like 20 minutes before taping.
[00:19:56] Speaker C: Yeah, exactly.
[00:19:57] Speaker B: Boxes, get some stick outs.
[00:19:59] Speaker C: Yeah. They open the door out of town, it's full of shoeboxes. They're so excited. They get in and they take a trip down memory lane in Rancho Cucamonga.
[00:20:12] Speaker B: Go to their old high school. I think at this point.
[00:20:15] Speaker A: That was their elementary school.
[00:20:16] Speaker B: Yeah. Was it their elementary school?
[00:20:18] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:20:19] Speaker A: I can't imagine why a high school Even in California would have a giant.
[00:20:22] Speaker C: Bear out front, which Taz couldn't imagine it either by that.
[00:20:32] Speaker B: But yeah, fun little gimmick. I mean, it's good stuff. I enjoy watching the young bucks be like weird pricks.
[00:20:40] Speaker C: Just another set of people who've really got their character work down right now.
[00:20:44] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly.
Then they only did, like a little portion of it, then they come back to that, like, driving around town later, I think.
[00:20:52] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, it was. Yeah, like a weird, like, time skip thing. They go get in and out and then cut back to the arena. And it is time for yet another four way for the men's casino gauntlet, this time for the number two entrant.
[00:21:13] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:21:13] Speaker C: Yes. They made sure you didn't forget that this is just as important as number one, which was said probably 18 times through the match.
[00:21:24] Speaker A: Even though it's the same thing.
[00:21:25] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:21:26] Speaker A: I hate. I hate wrestling. Sometimes.
[00:21:35] Speaker C: You got to manufacture you.
The carny schmucks who are fighting for number two here, mjf AR Fox, Anthony Bowens and Brody King, who is immediately bribed at the beginning of the matches right into that.
No, I thought he was like, gonna try and take his little, like, jacket off and then everybody was gonna jump him while he was like, hey, time out, time out. But he just pulls a lot of hundreds out, slaps it in Brody King's.
[00:22:14] Speaker B: Hand and then fails when it doesn't work. Just runs.
[00:22:18] Speaker A: Yeah, that was a. That was a very good MJF move.
[00:22:23] Speaker C: Yes, a little bit.
[00:22:25] Speaker B: Yep. Hides behind the Hurt Syndicate as he does. Yep. Brody starts kicking ass.
Yeah.
[00:22:33] Speaker C: Just beating the. Out of those guys. Like, running back and forth, doing cross bodies against.
[00:22:39] Speaker B: I love his. The seated chair.
[00:22:41] Speaker C: Like crowds.
Yeah, it was awesome.
[00:22:46] Speaker B: And he's a SoCal guy. I was gonna say. That's home, you know, close to home turf for him. I mean, I don't know where Van Nuys is in comparison, but yeah, they loved him.
[00:22:55] Speaker A: It's over there.
[00:22:56] Speaker C: Yeah, it's in that zone.
I say with no idea.
[00:23:04] Speaker A: California is like two cities, right?
[00:23:06] Speaker B: Yeah, that's it.
Van Nuys and Ontario and that's it.
But Brody's a star. I mean, like, everywhere he goes, he is evolved.
[00:23:17] Speaker C: Honestly, in this match, all of them. More.
[00:23:20] Speaker B: Yeah, I. The only. I do think Bowens is. He's not getting quite the same reaction as everyone else. There's still, like, some parts are missing with this solo run and I'm for it.
[00:23:32] Speaker A: Yeah, I know that, like, they're playing it off as they're still figuring it out. Like he's trying to figure it out, but like him actually getting to do stuff in this match got the crowd into him.
[00:23:44] Speaker B: Yeah, indeed. There was just one point where like he had a little like shine section and then AR Fox had one after him and just there was an audible difference in that crowd reaction between him and Fox. But also AR Fox is insanely over and like every move he does pops people huge because he's amazing. And I'm. Yeah, I'm definitely. I love Anthony Bowens. I think he needs like something to really. He needs like a blood feud or something. Like everyone knows he's likable, everyone knows he's personable and he can still go in the ring, but they just need something to like get everyone fully invested in. In him, in this, in this post acclaimed kind of character.
[00:24:22] Speaker A: Yep.
He's too. He's too white meat baby face with like too much else behind it.
[00:24:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. I'm glad they got rid of daddy ass. I'm. I think that's a smart move. They were going in the right direction and like, you guys, or like you said, he did end up, you know, getting them behind him as it went on. But just I felt like there was a clear difference between like how much heat MJF gets, how much love Brody and AR Fox got versus when Anthony was in control. Yeah, he's.
[00:24:52] Speaker C: He's working on it.
[00:24:54] Speaker B: Yep. Hopefully they'll come together, I think.
[00:24:56] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:24:58] Speaker C: Did come together from JF in this match, winning with a leg capture armbar which he didn't need to do. It was a fatal four way. He didn't need stop him from breaking the ropes, but they made sure to point that out.
[00:25:14] Speaker A: It was quite literally just clocking people with a chair in the match. Yeah.
[00:25:20] Speaker B: And then I was like, oh, what are they gonna do? Yeah, I, Yeah, I've heard that argument before. I think Jericho even talked about that once where it was like, oh, it's. You're not gonna get disqualified, but there are still rules. And it's just very specious reasoning.
[00:25:36] Speaker A: They always say that when they forget that there's no rules.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: Exactly.
[00:25:40] Speaker A: And it was like, oh, well, there's still rules, but it's a form.
[00:25:44] Speaker B: It's just what. It's whatever works. I mean, that's all it comes down to.
[00:25:47] Speaker A: Don't think about it, junior.
[00:25:50] Speaker B: Yeah. So it looks like we're not getting MJF versus Mystico at all. In like me and others, we're thinking, yeah. Which I think is a missed opportunity. I think that would have sold crazy Tickets. But we got.
Now it's. We got him and Mark Briscoe was the one and two now though, who.
[00:26:07] Speaker C: Came out again to.
Yet again talk about.
[00:26:13] Speaker A: He.
[00:26:13] Speaker C: He came out. He just did the bit from Master of disguise talking about MJF's little wiener and some tiny nuts.
[00:26:22] Speaker A: You just referenced Master of the Sky.
[00:26:25] Speaker B: That came out.
[00:26:25] Speaker A: What the fuck are you talking.
[00:26:27] Speaker B: Yeah, I thought that came out before you were born.
[00:26:31] Speaker C: No, probably only about five years after.
[00:26:34] Speaker A: I hadn't thought about that since college when we were my friends and I.
[00:26:38] Speaker C: Would sit around like, oh, let's see.
[00:26:39] Speaker A: What the worst movies are on IMDb.
[00:26:42] Speaker B: Looks like too turtley for the Turtles.
[00:26:45] Speaker A: Turtle.
[00:26:46] Speaker C: Look, that movie has a lot of problems.
[00:26:49] Speaker B: Oh, it does.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: Yes, apparently it does.
[00:26:54] Speaker C: But I enjoyed it as a little six to eight year old.
[00:26:58] Speaker B: Very fair, very fair.
[00:27:01] Speaker C: It made funny jokes about genitalia as Mark Briscoe has tried to do yet again.
It's still a weird thing for him to come out.
[00:27:14] Speaker B: They're setting up a promo battle now, which is weird.
[00:27:17] Speaker C: Yeah, they're a little talky talk, which.
[00:27:20] Speaker B: The talkie talk chant. That chant was funny. And especially MJF going, they're chanting talky talk. But I think I had the same reaction.
[00:27:28] Speaker C: MJF's like room mic, little like one off pickups. Yeah, he's crazy.
Like when he was about to get.
He tried to do something to AR Fox.
AR Fox, like ducked out of the way, like set him up from the move and he just said, mjf, what the fuck? And then just.
[00:27:48] Speaker B: He was going like, I think for the heat seeker on Brody and he yelled out, Brody sucks. Really loud.
Went nuts against him.
[00:27:56] Speaker C: There was a lot of that throughout the whole show.
[00:27:59] Speaker A: Yeah, the ring light seemed to pick up a lot.
[00:28:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:03] Speaker C: Which was good because there's just a lot of quips I never heard like.
[00:28:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I didn't hear like spot calling or anything, but it was more.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: Oh, no. Yeah, yeah. There's some good stuff in that. The Young Bucks match later. But then like. Yeah, like this.
All right, look, I'm going to say it.
I don't hate the idea of Mark Briscoe and MJF having a promo battle.
[00:28:25] Speaker B: Yeah, it could be fun.
[00:28:27] Speaker A: I'm into it.
[00:28:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:28:28] Speaker A: Because Mark Briscoe's been like a great promo. I don't want to hear them talk about MJF's dick, which I'm getting a little afraid of.
[00:28:36] Speaker C: They will primarily do.
[00:28:40] Speaker A: They're going to talk about his dick.
[00:28:42] Speaker B: An MJF chromo heavy segment for Me too. Is usually like, it's got a 50, 50 shot of hitting for me. And something really doesn't.
[00:28:51] Speaker C: Especially because, like, they're gonna come out. It's gonna be dick jokes. It'll just be MJF and then Hurt Locker. Not Hurt Locker, Hurt Syndicate comes out and Sorry, I had movies on the brain.
[00:29:02] Speaker B: No, that's fine. The Hurt Locker comes out.
[00:29:05] Speaker C: The Hurt Locker comes out. Sticker's near you. We're sad about Iraq.
[00:29:16] Speaker A: Bobby Lashley, he was a Marine, wasn't he? Yeah, that's right.
[00:29:19] Speaker B: Yeah. I think everybody was in a Marine movie at some point. I think I had a role.
[00:29:25] Speaker C: But, like, it's just gonna have them come out. They're gonna beat up Mark Briscoe. He's gonna be broken and battered and then come out at the.
[00:29:30] Speaker B: I'm putting money on Briscoe pulling out either a pickle or a jar of pickles at some point during it. I think crap's going to happen.
Not much money. I don't have a lot, but yeah, unfortunately, very optimistic of it. Yeah. Be like, you got this little guy. It pulls tiny pickle out of his pocket and crouch James Pickle or something.
[00:29:52] Speaker A: But what if he tricks MJF into actually whipping it out on live tv?
[00:29:59] Speaker C: You know what?
What a way to go out.
[00:30:02] Speaker A: Yeah, that would be.
[00:30:04] Speaker B: That would be nice watching you, aew.
Yeah.
[00:30:08] Speaker A: Yeah. I'll show you my pick.
[00:30:12] Speaker C: Three hundred and a half episodes and nothing more.
[00:30:18] Speaker B: This is how it dies. Not with a back foot with Winter.
[00:30:21] Speaker C: But with a pickle.
[00:30:25] Speaker B: But let's get. I. And I do think when it gets to it probably at all out. I'm imagining Mark versus MJF will probably be a dope match. I always think MJF over delivers in the ring. Mark Briscoe has been on a care for the last, like, I don't know, year of not having anything approaching a bad match, like. And it will be fun. People love Mark. People hate mjf. It'll work.
[00:30:49] Speaker C: Yeah. It's just now it's.
[00:30:52] Speaker B: Yeah. Jet Speed getting.
[00:30:55] Speaker A: Yeah. They poor guys.
[00:30:57] Speaker C: Her syndicate comes out or tries to leave yet again.
Somebody else's music gets hit again.
[00:31:04] Speaker B: Outcomes.
[00:31:04] Speaker C: Jet Speed gets their ass kicked again.
[00:31:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:09] Speaker C: And again and again.
[00:31:12] Speaker B: And like, I get they're building this underdog thing, like. And I love Jetsby. They are two of my favorite. Like, Mike Bailey is probably top five in the world for me. And I get like, they want to do this coming from underneath type thing.
Man. It almost feels like they're losing credibility a little Bit.
[00:31:32] Speaker A: It did not hit as much as.
[00:31:34] Speaker C: It should have, I think because we already had somebody saying, you're gonna have to kill me about 40 minutes earlier.
[00:31:42] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly.
[00:31:43] Speaker A: And in fact, I would point out that the both world title matches have had you have to kill me to beat me promos.
[00:31:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:53] Speaker A: That's what Tony has said to Mercedes.
[00:31:55] Speaker B: And also another nitpick. But this show was very beat down heavy. Like, I feel like almost every match or segment and the babyface get the crap kicked out of them and then have somebody run out and save them. Which like all the builds, all the beats building up to that, I thought were great. But I felt like that got just a little overused by the end of it.
But apparently for collision they did. They turned that Kevin Knight versus Shelton match. Nick Wayne's in there too. So my hope and theory is that all in, we're in Triple Threat ladder match for the tag titles.
Yeah.
[00:32:30] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:32:31] Speaker B: With Christian and Shelton in it. Who are two of the best ladder match wrestlers ever. Really?
[00:32:36] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:32:37] Speaker B: Shelton used to own those money in the bank matches.
Speedball's got to do crazy stuff. You're going to see a reverse UFO splash from Kevin Knight off a ladder if they do it, you know, fantasy booking. But I'm hoping that's where it leads.
[00:32:52] Speaker C: Makes sense to me. I don't see why not.
We can call the ladder match too.
[00:33:00] Speaker B: No matter what, I do think it's going to be a triple threat with patriarchy. Speedball or jet speed and Hurt Locker.
[00:33:07] Speaker C: Jet Ball and Hurt Locker.
I don't know.
[00:33:12] Speaker B: They are to me. It's Hurt Locker to me. Now.
I've never seen the movie, but that's what I'm calling him.
[00:33:19] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:33:21] Speaker B: No, I'll get that.
[00:33:22] Speaker A: I want an Oscar, you know, I don't know. I've never seen it.
[00:33:26] Speaker B: Yeah, it sounds like a movie that won an Oscar in my head.
[00:33:31] Speaker A: Right. Because it's about how we set American soldiers somewhere and they're.
[00:33:35] Speaker C: We're sad about it.
[00:33:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:33:36] Speaker B: I think I always mix it up with Million Dollar Baby.
They're both like Oscar bait movies from that.
[00:33:46] Speaker C: I don't know anything about either of them.
[00:33:49] Speaker A: How do you make stuff Hurt Locker with Million Dollar Baby?
[00:33:53] Speaker B: I just not like, what.
[00:33:57] Speaker A: Now I'm thinking of Slumdog Millionaire instead of Million Dollar Baby. Right. So that's the one where the lady boxer has to disarm a bomb on who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
[00:34:10] Speaker B: I would genuinely want.
[00:34:12] Speaker C: I watched that in my film class at college. It was great.
Oh, my. But we were Back again from the young bucks taking a little, little tour. They get out of the limousine in full gear, which I thought was their shirts off.
[00:34:31] Speaker B: I imagine they changed in the limo.
[00:34:33] Speaker C: Shirts off, tassels on, dodging shoe boxes, trying to get. Yeah, yeah.
[00:34:39] Speaker A: They would have had to keep their gear in the limo to keep it away from Okada.
[00:34:44] Speaker B: That's true. He does love wearing that picture of him. And Nick's gear is one of my favorite things.
This is another stacked match we got here, though.
[00:34:52] Speaker C: Yeah. The first of our Heroes versus Villains match.
[00:34:56] Speaker B: Yes. Go see Superman. Go see Superman. Go see Superman.
[00:35:00] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You better, you better, you better, you better see Superman.
[00:35:03] Speaker A: I don't care about Superman. I want to talk about how Kyle O'Reilly, instead of doing his little slutty air guitar, came down doing slutty little finger guns like bandana.
Yes.
This is O'Reilly. Your son could either be the prime minister of Canada or he could be a pro wrestler slash male stripper.
[00:35:35] Speaker B: I think he was bringing back the sleazy Kyle that he used to do.
[00:35:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:40] Speaker B: This is a very. This is a PWG forward match.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: I was gonna say. Yeah, yeah.
[00:35:46] Speaker B: Everybody in this match except Takeshita has held pro wrestling Gorilla Gold and even together wrestled there a bunch.
[00:35:53] Speaker A: Takesha, I think held their title at one point.
[00:35:56] Speaker B: I don't. I don't think he did, but I could be mistaken on.
[00:36:02] Speaker A: I think he won Battle of la.
[00:36:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. But I don't think he won the belt after. I could be mistake. I haven't watched as much newer PWG as old stuff.
[00:36:11] Speaker A: Let me do a journalism.
[00:36:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Either way, they're all very like Bandido champ Kyle and Roddy both champs. Bucks obvious tag champs. And even gets a PWG Chan at the start of the match too, I think.
[00:36:26] Speaker A: Yeah. This was so. Yeah. Because they.
They were just shouting out the SoCal indie scene like the entire thing.
[00:36:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Absolute love letter to it. Paragon's music sucks that way.
[00:36:39] Speaker C: Paragon faction sucks. Not the most.
[00:36:44] Speaker B: No.
[00:36:44] Speaker C: I love concept of a faction.
[00:36:47] Speaker B: Yeah. It's literally just like the kind of shirts that BMX guys wear as a faction.
Really generic everything. And I particularly the two Kyle and Roddy are two of the best in the world in my opinion. I mean, Roderick Strong, I think I talked about last week is a glue guy. He just makes everything he does work.
[00:37:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:12] Speaker C: Made it work in this match too.
[00:37:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:37:16] Speaker C: Fantastic.
Heroes vs. Villains six man tag.
[00:37:22] Speaker A: You definitely want to call a match Heroes vs. Villains and then have the Villains win.
[00:37:28] Speaker C: That's exactly my notes.
[00:37:30] Speaker A: Was. That's marketing right there.
Yep.
[00:37:34] Speaker C: I think this did have my Taz of the week, where he is still going off about that stupid bear.
[00:37:43] Speaker A: Plugging the hole.
[00:37:44] Speaker C: And Excalibur ask asks Taz, you ever live. Ever looked a flagpole Taz like. Like in winter? And Taz goes, no, but I don't drink as much as you.
[00:37:58] Speaker B: That was very solid.
[00:37:59] Speaker C: Which it was. It was. It was less of an O, Taz.
[00:38:02] Speaker B: And more of a. Oh, yeah, exactly. He's a sharp guy. Like, as much as his, you know, gimmick and shtick is kind of this like, meathead dude. Like, he comes up with some little, like, quips and lines. It's like, oh, that was really good.
[00:38:17] Speaker C: Yeah, he's quick with a jones for sure.
[00:38:19] Speaker B: Indeed.
[00:38:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:20] Speaker B: And I mean, this whole match was quick. This is.
[00:38:24] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, Pete.
[00:38:26] Speaker B: Like I said, PWG mid 2010s indie crazy spots.
Just nuts from start to finish.
[00:38:33] Speaker A: This had another really good in ring Mike catch where Bandito tossed. I don't even know which buck he tossed.
And like, it was Nicholas. Like, Nicholas is in the middle of in. In air. He's like, oh, God, help me. And he gets the cutter.
[00:38:52] Speaker B: To me is one of those guys where like, he gets his accolades, but I almost don't think he gets him enough. Like Nick Jackson. Matt's good too. Don't get me wrong. They're fantastic team, but Nick just nails like everything to perfection.
[00:39:05] Speaker C: I've been watching these guys for a long time and I. I dead ass cannot tell you which one's which. So I still.
[00:39:12] Speaker B: You.
You ready to say. Nick's the blonde one.
He's the high. More high fly. And Matt looks like Matt Hardy.
[00:39:21] Speaker A: Nick is their leader.
[00:39:23] Speaker B: Nick is their leader.
[00:39:25] Speaker A: I don't know.
I really don't. I. I can't.
[00:39:29] Speaker C: None of this helps me, unfortunately. I'm sorry.
[00:39:32] Speaker B: That's fair.
[00:39:33] Speaker A: All these white boys look the same to me.
[00:39:37] Speaker B: It doesn't help.
Yeah. If you ever saw Malachi the third buck back in the day, it was even worse.
[00:39:44] Speaker C: There was a third?
[00:39:46] Speaker B: Yeah, very briefly. I think he's a car salesman now. But he did some stuff in PWG with him back in, like the, you know, early 2010s, he was okay. Like, he was kind of the worst of all the bucks instincts. Very like spot monkey.
Like just. And never got that was ever refined as Matt and Nick are.
[00:40:07] Speaker A: You know who. You know what surprised me, never worked out was generation me. Whatever happened to those guys?
[00:40:14] Speaker B: Max and whatever. Buck. Max and Jeremy Buck. That's It. Yeah, they did have a great match with Motor City Machine Guns back in those old days.
[00:40:28] Speaker C: Okay, that's what I thought you were referencing. I couldn't remember if that's generation.
Yeah.
[00:40:34] Speaker B: Yeah, they were there. They were there for, I don't even think a year. Like maybe.
[00:40:37] Speaker A: Yeah, they didn't last long.
[00:40:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:40] Speaker C: For the best.
[00:40:41] Speaker B: Indeed.
[00:40:42] Speaker C: As we talked about earlier, the jumping of people continues this evening as the young bucks get attacked by Swerve and Osprey.
[00:40:53] Speaker A: Yes, our brave heroes.
[00:40:55] Speaker C: Yes, our brave heroes.
The phrase young cucks is uttered.
[00:41:02] Speaker B: Yeah. And I heard that for a while. I was kind of happy about that note. That's just cheesy.
[00:41:09] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:41:10] Speaker B: This whole promo, I kind of was a little iffy on, like, I like all these guys, but I don't think Swerve should be like, rah rah of the people guy. I think he should still be an anti hero badass.
[00:41:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
I mean, like, they did what they were trying to do, which was like, they raised the stakes even higher for that match to get the bucks to. To agree to it. So, like now, you know, Osprey and Swerve can't challenge for the titles for a year.
[00:41:41] Speaker B: Yeah, Osprey and Swerve put up. If they lose, they can't do it for a year, which I do. Like, I think that's smarter than.
Yeah, it's better than the Cody thing and it's better than, like, them putting their careers on the line because, you know, Will Osprey and Swerve Strickland aren't leaving AEW anytime soon. So that would be a foregone conclusion. But these guys could lose. And there's plenty of people at the top of the card that could keep the main title scene, you know, active for a year pretty reasonably. Hangman's probably going to win plenty of.
[00:42:12] Speaker C: Stuff for those guys to do, too.
[00:42:13] Speaker B: That's not.
Do Midgard stuff. Get a TNT run, elevate that a little. But yeah, Darby's probably going to get a title run. I mean, that's. It's. I could actually see this match going either way now.
[00:42:27] Speaker A: Yep.
This did have a really funny moment that I've noted was at the start of the promo, Swerve was like, we don't want the EVP titles because I don't trust Will.
[00:42:39] Speaker B: That was funny.
[00:42:40] Speaker A: And then they. And then they cut. Then like, you cut later. And Will's like, swerve, trust me, I've got an idea. And he's like. He just said he doesn't trust you, man.
[00:42:49] Speaker C: He didn't trust him with that amount of power. He did clarify. He did clarify.
But yeah, I know.
[00:43:00] Speaker A: It was like.
[00:43:00] Speaker C: A three minute like flip around of I don't trust this guy, but I'm gonna trust this guy.
[00:43:06] Speaker A: Like as soon as you said it, I was like, I knew I shouldn't have trusted to talk.
[00:43:11] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:43:12] Speaker A: Shut the up, Englishman.
[00:43:16] Speaker B: You never let Will Ospreay make the decisions. Like that should be rule one of your faction.
But yeah, like I said, it's a good step. I think it's smart. It definitely adds some stakes to it and keeps it interesting.
[00:43:29] Speaker C: Yep. And those two are out there for another Heroes vs. Villains match, which I say groaningly at that. Not the actual matches.
[00:43:41] Speaker B: Yeah, another dope match. But yeah, just the branding gets heavy. Like if I wanted to watch wrestling covered in branding, I'd watch WWE exactly.
[00:43:51] Speaker A: Like, okay, Morto Cinderella used to help make sense for this kind of match because like you have masked villains.
[00:43:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:01] Speaker A: Go, go find hologram to team with Bandido.
[00:44:06] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:44:07] Speaker A: And do the mass Heroes.
[00:44:09] Speaker B: That would have been a sick move.
[00:44:11] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[00:44:12] Speaker A: But no, no, no.
[00:44:15] Speaker C: We end up with Swerve and Osprey versus, as I wrote down initially, Draculisto, which was not right, versus drinking on that Dracalisto.
[00:44:29] Speaker B: But yeah, like even if fanatically, this doesn't make sense. These are four amazing. Well, three Amazing wrestlers and Drillistico Amazing in half the time.
Like he's good with the right. You know, he's good in it and he's great with the right people, but sometimes he has issues with meshing. But I mean, these are. It all worked. Everybody here is fantastic.
[00:44:48] Speaker C: Yeah, it's three guys that anybody I think could. Could mesh with pretty well to pull a good match out.
[00:44:54] Speaker A: I don't think it was quite as good as the 6 band, but it was.
[00:44:58] Speaker B: No, this was a little short.
Almost too. I felt like maybe they realized they were running over a little time with the Six man and they had to cut this.
[00:45:07] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:45:07] Speaker B: Enough room for the main.
[00:45:09] Speaker A: I think they also just needed to show that even if they're not always on the same page, like Osprey and Swerve are like up here.
[00:45:19] Speaker B: Yeah. And they can work together.
[00:45:21] Speaker A: Portos and Jelly Sticko are like lower on the totem pole.
[00:45:25] Speaker B: It was kind of like the Mina Mercedes. It's a. It's pecking order stuff. It's establishing who's where. Like I'm sure. I bet you anything mortals is going to be in the casino gauntlet and probably have an Amazing showing. But like this is one of the. This is probably gonna be one of the marquee matches for those two guys.
Yeah, but good man. I mean, cool stuff.
[00:45:46] Speaker C: I lied earlier in this broadcast.
[00:45:48] Speaker B: Oh no.
[00:45:49] Speaker C: This had my Taz of the week.
[00:45:51] Speaker A: Oh, okay.
[00:45:53] Speaker C: Dralistico has Swerve and Osprey in the middle of the ring and just double bird fuck you goes. Well, that was simple.
[00:46:06] Speaker B: No, actually my Taz of the week is during the commercial break of this match on the picture in picture commentary where Taz says that Prince Nana's clothes look like the drapes in his hotel room.
[00:46:16] Speaker A: Oh, I wrote this out.
May I? May I? Okay.
[00:46:20] Speaker B: Yeah, no, please.
[00:46:23] Speaker A: Your Listico might be pissed off at Nana for the clothes he's wearing. Looks like the curtains in my hotel. Horrible.
I love Nada.
He just buries Nana and then ends it with I love Nana.
[00:46:44] Speaker B: People miss out on the commercial break commentary, so there is so much gold in there.
[00:46:49] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:46:50] Speaker B: It briefly turns into Mystery Science Theater.
[00:46:53] Speaker A: Yeah, like that was where the like just call the match, dude.
[00:46:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, freak out at Tony. Yeah.
[00:46:59] Speaker A: That was so funny, dude.
[00:47:02] Speaker B: Yeah, dude. You watch the match.
I'm calling the match. I was like dictating that to my wrestlet because they were all watching a regular team. I was like, you guys have no idea. We gotta find the clip.
[00:47:13] Speaker C: I love that like Taz every time they're coming back from break like squeezes one little thing in that, you know, telling her to break as they're coming down.
[00:47:24] Speaker B: Oh man, I will say this match had some amazing little sequences too. There was the swerve stop into the stormbreaker they did. That was cool, you know. And the finish with toss up into a styles clash into the house call. Like that was just gorgeously done.
Like they do have good chemistry Mo Assassins or whatever they're calling them. They do work well together as a team.
[00:47:52] Speaker C: Yeah, those. Those guys yet again showed that they really work well together as a tag team.
So hopefully even after this whole Young bucks thing wraps up, I hope we get to continue to to see them.
[00:48:08] Speaker B: Indeed. That's attack round would be cool.
[00:48:12] Speaker C: And then this is where I wrote down what match was happening and just put my notebook down to watch some good ass wrestling because it is time for the main event.
Okada versus Ibushi.
[00:48:24] Speaker B: And Lance Archer in full goon attire, looking just like a henchman in a vampire movie. Amazing stuff.
[00:48:30] Speaker A: Don Callis on commentary.
[00:48:33] Speaker C: He's wearing his best Jerry Lawler outfit.
[00:48:36] Speaker A: This was, this was the. This was the.
Fuck you. I can just Book this for TV match.
[00:48:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:48:43] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:48:44] Speaker B: Yeah, this was Tony Flexen, but. Oh, I mean, we'll get into it. But I was. Oh, I was so pleased. I love Coda, and it was so nice to see him, really. Like, he did great last week against Trent. Like, that was a good stage setting. But this worked for, like, to a level that I wasn't even trying to hope for because I didn't think it could do it necessarily.
[00:49:05] Speaker C: Yeah. Just those two working together really showed the talent and skill of each other.
[00:49:13] Speaker A: It was kind of staying in it.
[00:49:15] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:49:18] Speaker B: I'll give another thing with the crowd. They really gave it, like, the respect and reverence almost that, like, they were behind it. They were going nuts for Ibushi, who really, he's a wrestler who feeds off crowds. I feel like. So, really having him behind him, it kind of elevated everything, you know, kind of put his working boots on. He really did not half ass anything.
[00:49:38] Speaker C: We talked about last week, how they were putting people in bubble wrap. I don't think there was a lot of bubble wrap in this match.
[00:49:46] Speaker A: Yeah, they.
I think Ibushi wanted to kind of prove.
Oh, something.
He's like, all right, well, I did one match. It's time for neck bumps again.
[00:49:57] Speaker B: Yeah. The first match was kind of a feeling, like, seeing how it went and everything, I felt like.
[00:50:01] Speaker A: And then. Yeah, like, this one was like, okay, all right.
[00:50:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:50:05] Speaker A: Kazu, let me do the.
Spike me on the floor with that ddt. I'm just gonna go vertical for it. It's fine.
[00:50:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yeah. He did the ring again.
[00:50:14] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, do it again.
That German just dropped me right on my neck. Don't even worry about it. Don't lie.
[00:50:21] Speaker B: I feel like they still played it smart. Like, they really. They're focusing on Bushi's striking.
He's throwing in just enough of, like, his high spot stuff to keep it exciting. But like, they're doing.
They're almost doing the kind of Samoa Joe thing where he's playing the hits. He's doing it smart and getting over on the aura without going so far that you can kind of see the rough there. Like, he's never gonna move like he did in 2009 again. He's probably never gonna move like he did in 2017 again. But if they can figure out how to structure stuff properly, then I think it, you know, he could show out for years and years to come.
[00:50:56] Speaker A: I don't want to say he's back yet, but I want to say he is.
[00:51:04] Speaker C: He's here.
[00:51:05] Speaker A: He might have Figured out how to wrestle without just killing himself.
[00:51:10] Speaker C: Yeah. He has to play it smart and safe going forward, as do the people he's working with.
[00:51:18] Speaker A: When you break your ankles, stop wrestling.
[00:51:22] Speaker B: Just called it at that point, but they still had, like, some big. He does a gorgeous planchette to the outside.
Like, really turn back the hands of time there.
Like, you guys are saying the bumps.
[00:51:35] Speaker C: I mean, the top rope Tiger or the like, super Tiger bomb that they. Or Tiger driver.
[00:51:43] Speaker B: Yeah, that highlight of the map. I mean, the high point of the match, in my opinion.
[00:51:46] Speaker A: Yeah, I thought he did a Mantis bomb from the top, like a, like, underhook pile driver from that angle. And then like. Yeah, they did the replay. It's like, oh, that was just a Tiger title.
[00:51:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:00] Speaker A: What the.
[00:52:01] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. It looked a lot better on the side angle than that initial angle because I was like, oh, God, he killed him. He killed that man.
[00:52:09] Speaker B: Exactly. And yeah, I mean, Okada worked it perfectly. I flipped into it, beautiful landing and that.
I think, you know, the closing stretch after that was great, but that was the peak of the mountain for me. I was hooting and hollering. And Koda hit a kinshasa at one point, too. Did a little Nakamura move in there.
[00:52:40] Speaker C: The running knee strike. Wink.
[00:52:43] Speaker B: He did a weird little, like, lean down pose before for some. That's a clever thing, Koda.
[00:52:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:52:49] Speaker A: Wow. Where did he learn that one?
[00:52:54] Speaker B: But it all worked. It was a love letter to Japanese wrestling. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:52:58] Speaker C: And to the surprise of no.1, Okada wins it despite Ibushi's best efforts.
[00:53:06] Speaker B: Great draft kit. Great, great rainmaker. That rainmaker took his head off and.
[00:53:11] Speaker C: That, like, supercharged lariat. That.
[00:53:18] Speaker B: Yeah. And Coda went into murder Ibushi mode for a little bit too. Just a taste. Just a little bit. Got in the ropes and was just.
[00:53:24] Speaker C: Like, striking, but did not take it home. Okada wins. Ibushi gets jumped by the John Callis.
[00:53:33] Speaker B: I wonder if there'll be another beat down.
[00:53:35] Speaker C: Yeah, that's the theme of the night. And also what the Don Callis family does.
And who comes out to save Ibushi.
[00:53:45] Speaker A: Kenneth Fitzgerald. Omega.
[00:53:47] Speaker C: Kenneth, By God, Fitzgerald, Omega.
[00:53:54] Speaker B: Yes. Golden. Golden lovers reunion. I mean, it was the happy.
[00:53:58] Speaker A: Oh, it was so beautiful. I was so happy. Yeah.
[00:54:01] Speaker B: Yeah. Really pulled everything together.
Got a little over clumped a little bit.
[00:54:07] Speaker C: It was nice to. Nice to see those two exist side by side and just friends looking out for each other.
[00:54:13] Speaker B: They had to hug, especially after Koda's, like, big, you know, kind of return thing like that.
[00:54:19] Speaker C: Mm.
And if either of y' all or anybody listening know where or what Kenny's shirt was, please let me know, because it was really cool.
[00:54:28] Speaker B: Oh, it's, Ah, yeah, it's Masa from ddt.
Yes.
[00:54:34] Speaker A: Yes.
So Masa was injured in a match earlier this year, and he broke his neck. And, like, he's had, like, surgery to fuse it back together.
They don't know if he, like, they think he's gonna recover. They don't know.
So the shirt is part of a charity drive they're doing just, like, to raise funds so that, like, you know, he can get his treatment and all that other stuff. Stuff.
[00:55:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:55:01] Speaker A: Keep going.
[00:55:03] Speaker C: Cool. I will absolutely go get one. And everybody else should too.
[00:55:07] Speaker B: I. I ordered one today. I was gonna say. And there's a GoFundMe out there too, and people look it up. Masa is a wonderful person, cornerstone of Japanese wrestling, helped train Kenny, Emmy, Sakura, all kinds of DDT people.
[00:55:21] Speaker A: Yep. He was apparently Kenny's roommate when Kenny started in ddt.
He's. So, like, there's the T shirt you can get on pro wrestling tees. Just, like, type in Masa Takanashi T shirts. It brings you right there. There's like, another one done by a Singapore wrestler named Dr. Gore, who, who did this, did, like, a calamari Drunken Kings theme one with his team, with Chris Brooks. If you go to Choco Pro's website, they have.
You can buy, like, basically, gifts and, like, they'll say your name on, like, their YouTube broadcast, that kind of thing.
And, like, all the money goes to masa. There's a GoFundMe.
[00:56:05] Speaker B: You're able. It's good. Cause.
[00:56:07] Speaker A: Very good.
[00:56:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Bring us all together.
[00:56:12] Speaker A: And the shirt says I've been down before.
[00:56:14] Speaker B: Yep, that's. That's the one I ordered.
[00:56:16] Speaker C: Yeah, that's what I thought I said. I had to pause it and, like, wrote that down and did not get a chance to look that up.
[00:56:24] Speaker A: But yeah, Kenny wearing that should, like, help out a lot, I think.
[00:56:29] Speaker B: Yeah. He made a big Twitter post about it too. It's been getting shared around. I'm sure people listening to this will probably bring in thousands of sales. I mean, we're moving.
[00:56:40] Speaker C: Absolutely.
And to the thousands listening.
[00:56:44] Speaker A: The millions.
[00:56:46] Speaker B: Yeah, probably billions at this point.
[00:56:49] Speaker A: The ones and choose.
[00:56:54] Speaker B: Hi, mom.
[00:56:55] Speaker C: To the nine.
I repeat, nine listeners.
[00:57:01] Speaker B: We love you.
[00:57:01] Speaker A: Everybody that liked my Blue sky post.
[00:57:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
To my cats, which I played it for.
[00:57:10] Speaker C: They're the most important listeners.
[00:57:12] Speaker B: Yeah. They don't have any money.
Great. Dynamite. 300. You know, obviously, the little knitbacks here and there with the branding and like the repetitive booking. But it delivered all the move stuff forward matches were great. That trios match one of my favorite TV matches probably of the year, if I'm being honest. Fun times. Aw rules. 300 more episodes.
[00:57:36] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:57:37] Speaker B: Bring Back Rampage.
[00:57:39] Speaker A: Bring back Rampage. Bring back. Bring back Dark. I understand.
[00:57:43] Speaker B: Yeah, please. And dark. And dark. Elevation.
[00:57:45] Speaker A: Dark Elevation.
[00:57:48] Speaker B: So we got Dynamite on Wednesday and then we are doing a live show for all in.
[00:57:54] Speaker C: Yes. We will be doing a watch along for that that will be going up on the Monday night Fake Fights Patreon. After we watch that, record it and we'll get that out for folks to listen along with if they want.
And we encourage you to go check that out even before we watched that.
Yes, definitely.
[00:58:17] Speaker B: Great stuff on there.
[00:58:18] Speaker C: Erica and I are all over that. Jeff, I think you've popped up once or twice.
[00:58:23] Speaker B: I might have. I'm all over. I'm like ven.
I'm everywhere you want to be.
That's an old reference.
[00:58:35] Speaker A: Just on the. On the Patreon. We just had a watch party for the 1996 bash at the beach for WCW.
[00:58:43] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:58:46] Speaker A: Co host Hampter. The formation of the new world order.
[00:58:50] Speaker C: Yes. The reveal of the third man brother.
[00:58:54] Speaker B: We're.
[00:58:55] Speaker C: We're here. We are in the. In terms of 1996 wrestling.
[00:58:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:58:59] Speaker C: So if you wanna. If you want to see what.
What made that whole era the.
The era was. Yeah, that's probably the better way to say it.
Jump into to Monday Night Fake Fights as well. It's. It's gonna be. Gonna be a great time.
[00:59:15] Speaker B: We're all on Monday Night Fake Fights at various points. I'm coming up on it next month again. It's a fun, fun show. And Garrett who we have tied up and thrown into a closet right now.
It's great. Great.
[00:59:28] Speaker C: She behaves the whole episode.
[00:59:30] Speaker B: Yeah. I know. Till the end. Like that. Yeah.
Yeah. I have to get the duct tape back or the gorilla tape next week.
[00:59:37] Speaker A: Join the Patreon. So give Garrick $5.
[00:59:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:42] Speaker A: Then she can get a comfier chair. Comfier duct tape. And she'll pay us $20.
[00:59:48] Speaker B: Yeah. Yes. Premium duct tape.
[00:59:51] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:59:51] Speaker A: Which at this point it's been what, a year? But it's $40 now, I think.
[00:59:56] Speaker C: Yeah.
In this economy.
[00:59:58] Speaker B: Yeah. The tape tariffs, huh? Yeah. They import them from duct tape Landia.
[01:00:06] Speaker C: Those fees are ridiculous.
[01:00:09] Speaker B: It's getting harder and harder to tape up our producer every week.
[01:00:13] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:00:15] Speaker B: Yeah. We got great stuff coming up. Yeah.
Not just, you know, kidnapping. But we have great podcasting stuff coming up and we thank everybody for listening.
[01:00:24] Speaker C: Thank you, everybody. We'll see you next week.
[01:00:26] Speaker A: Don't show your pickle on tv.
[01:00:29] Speaker B: It.
